Everyone has seen it. A guy takes a hard hit to the balls in sports and we all groan and think “Wow, I hope he had his athletic cup on”. But what about women?
Nothing is more painful to a man than a hard groin hit! And unfortunately many men and boys purchase their first cup after that first hit. So why is that?
As boys, we learn how sensitive our balls are, and learn very early to keep our hands out in front so we don't get “racked” by other kids. As we started playing sports we learned that our hands can’t prevent impacts, the pain, and a real genital injury becomes a focus for the first time.
While the modern groin cup can help males with the horrible pain of a groin hit, and even serious injury, many males choose not to wear one, or only occasionally. But a right-fitting, right-shaped, and secure groin cup can reduce injury and, in many cases, pain as well.
The ubiquitous jockstrap was invented in 1874 by Bike Athletic and they are also often (incorrectly) credited with the invention of the athletic cup as well.
